The day of surgery the theatre team will all meet to discuss George’s surgery in what is commonly referred to as the ‘WHO’ this begins a process that will continue throughout George’s time within theatre known as the five steps to safer surgery.

The five stages are the 1.WHO brief.  2.Sign in, this includes the patient before they have any procedure performed.  3.The time out where the scrub practitioner and the surgeon confirm the consent.  4.The sign out to officially document the procedures name, and finally 5. The debrief which allows the highlighting of good or bad practice. Vickers, (2011)
